Reverse Osmosis (RO) & Membrane Systems in Bangladesh

RO, UF and DM plants for process water, boiler feed and water reuse — engineered, skid-built and supported with genuine DuPont membranes.

Industrial reverse osmosis removes dissolved salts, hardness and organics from raw water to produce the process water that dyeing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food production and boiler operation depend on. The same technology, applied to treated effluent instead of raw water, is what makes water reuse and any high-recovery or ZLD scheme possible.

An RO plant's life is decided by its pre-treatment. Membranes fouled by inadequate filtration or scaled by an unsuitable antiscalant programme fail in months; the same membranes on a properly pre-treated feed run for years. WTBL designs the whole train rather than selling the membrane stage alone, and as an authorised DuPont Water Solutions distributor supplies genuine FilmTec membranes with the cleaning and dosing chemistry to keep them working.

Treatment Process

How a RO & Membrane plant works.

  1. 01

    Raw water analysis

A full analysis of the feed — hardness, silica, iron, organics, conductivity — because the pre-treatment design follows entirely from what is actually in the water, and assumptions here are what kill membranes later.

  2. 02

    Pre-treatment

Multimedia filtration, activated carbon, iron removal and softening as the analysis dictates, followed by cartridge filtration. Where the feed is variable or high in solids, ultrafiltration replaces conventional media filtration to give the RO a consistently clean feed.

  3. 03

    Antiscalant dosing

Scale inhibitor dosed to suit the specific feed chemistry and the target recovery. This is the cheapest part of the plant and the one that most often determines whether it meets its design life.

  4. 04

    Reverse osmosis

Skid-mounted RO using DuPont FilmTec elements in WTBL-built pressure vessels, arranged in single or multiple passes according to the required permeate quality and recovery.

  5. 05

    Polishing and demineralisation

Where conductivity must go lower than RO alone achieves — boiler feed, pharmaceutical and electronics duties — mixed-bed or two-bed ion exchange polishes the permeate to specification.

What WTBL Delivers

Scope of supply.

Authorised DuPont distribution

WTBL is an authorised DuPont Water Solutions distributor for RO, UF and MBR membranes in Bangladesh, supplying genuine elements with warranty support for its own plants and for plants built by others.

Skid fabrication

RO skids, pressure vessels and accessories built at WTBL's Gazipur factory, which keeps lead times short and spare parts available locally.

Membrane cleaning and replacement

CIP cleaning, performance normalisation and scheduled element replacement — the difference between a plant that degrades gracefully and one that fails without warning.

Chemicals and consumables

Antiscalants, cleaning chemicals, cartridge filters and RO accessories supplied on an ongoing basis, backed by WTBL's chemical division.

Common Questions

RO & Membrane — Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions buyers ask most often before commissioning a RO & Membrane system.

What is a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant used for in industry?

Industrial RO removes dissolved salts, hardness and organics from raw water to produce process water for boilers, dyeing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and food production. It is also used on the wastewater side to recover reusable water from treated effluent, which is the core of any high-recovery or ZLD scheme.

What is the difference between RO, UF and DM?

UF (ultrafiltration) removes suspended solids, bacteria and colloids but not dissolved salts, and is usually the pre-treatment stage. RO removes dissolved salts as well and produces low-conductivity permeate. DM (demineralisation) uses ion-exchange resin to polish water to very low conductivity, typically after RO, for boiler feed and similar duties.

How often do RO membranes need replacing?

Membrane life depends on feed water quality, pre-treatment and cleaning discipline far more than on calendar age — well-run plants get several years, poorly pre-treated ones foul in months. WTBL supplies DuPont FilmTec membranes as an authorised distributor and provides antiscalant dosing, CIP cleaning and membrane replacement under O&M contracts.

Does WTBL supply RO membranes and spare parts separately?

Yes. As an authorised DuPont Water Solutions distributor for RO, UF and MBR in Bangladesh, WTBL supplies membranes, antiscalants, cleaning chemicals, pressure vessels and RO accessories to plants it did not build, alongside its own turnkey projects.
